Hyperlink 3
Hamburg - Denmark
Hyperlink 3 connects to the Danish hydrogen network and facilitates the import of green hydrogen produced in Denmark. The infrastructure required for this is being planned and built in close cooperation with Danish TSO Energinet. The resulting cross-border hydrogen transmission network will extend from the underground hydrogen storage facility in Lille Torup in Denmark to Heidenau, close to Hamburg. It will also provide access to Storengy’s SaltHy underground storage facility in Harsefeld. In Heidenau, Hyperlink 3 joins up with the other Hyperlink sections, enabling transmission of hydrogen to consumers in other parts of Germany too.
In close cooperation with a regional DSO, Hyperlink 3 will be able to reach the Brunsbüttel/Heide industrial region and prospective major consumers and production projects in Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony. This sub-project could also eventually facilitate hydrogen imports through the integration of the hydrogen receiving terminals in Brunsbüttel and Stade into the Hyperlink network.
Hyperlink 3 will be developed from the south towards the north, meaning that Stade will be the first industrial region to receive hydrogen in 2028. The prerequisites for connecting the industrial town of Brunsbüttel will then be put in place in 2028/2029. This involves work by the regional network operator to convert an existing natural gas pipeline in order to connect Hyperlink 3 and Brunsbüttel. Further extension to the Danish cross-border interconnection point at Ellund will depend on the level of demand in northern Schleswig-Holstein and the availability of the Danish hydrogen network, which is currently scheduled to be ready by the end of 2031.
For the Brunsbüttel-Hemmingstedt section, which will be realised as part of the integration of the Heide region, Gasunie is the point of contact for interested market participants and not the direct project manager. If you have any questions about this project, please contact us.
