Hyperlink 1 - 2

Netherlands - Bremen-Hamburg - Salzgitter

The Hyperlink 1 and 2 sub-projects concern the hydrogen pipeline system running between the Dutch Hynetwork hydrogen network and the greater Hamburg and Salzgitter regions. The section of pipeline running from the Oude Statenzijl–Bunder-Tief cross-border interconnection point via the Nüttermoor storage facility and on to the Bremen region as far as Leversen is a central element that will connect the Hamburg region to Gasunie’s envisioned hydrogen network. This section, Hyperlink 1, will facilitate connections to a significant number of relevant hydrogen producers and consumers as early as the end of 2027. We anticipate that Hyperlink 2 – with a connection to the steelworks in Salzgitter and the ONTRAS hydrogen network – will be up and running by 2029. This first sub-project of the Hyperlink hydrogen network project largely concerns repurposing existing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen transmission.

Hyperlink 1 and 2 are part of the IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) Hy2Infra wave, which was approved by the EU Commission in February 2024. The German government subsequently gave the green light, by means of the associated grant decision, in July 2024.

The funding under the grant is provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the Lower Saxony Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Action, the Lower Saxony Ministry for Economic Affairs, Transport, Construction and Digitalisation and the Senator for Economics, Ports and Transformation of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
